Romeos’ Tip of the Week : Take a moment or two to take in all that “Mother Nature” has to offer!

Hello everyone!

Romeo the little black dog.

Romeo is checking out the new plants that are popping up everywhere! He loves SPRING!!

SPRING is here in full swing now, and I love it! There are so many sights and scents to explore.

“Mother Nature” can be quite fierce but she also is very generous with the gift of beauty in abundance. Flowers in full bloom of every shade and aroma, lush green leaves on trees to shade us, soft cool grass to lay on, and the list goes on and on so much so that I’m practically bursting with joy. This is a great time to remind each other to do our part to take care of this beautiful planet we live on. There are many ways to do our part such as; throwing our trash away in recepticals, owners cleaning waste up after their pets, recycling, not wasting precious energy, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas of ways that we can help keep our planet healthy and beautiful? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

My tip this week: take a moment or two to take in all that “Mother Nature” has to offer.

Happy Mothers Day!

Hello everyone!

I’d like to take this day to thank all the “Mothers” for all the love, guidance and nurturing they give to us. Being a mother is a very special role.

Whether you are a mother to 2 or 4 legged boys/girls it is the most special and important role there is. A mother is a teacher, nurse, cook, story teller, cuddler and the list goes on and on. You don’t have to give birth to be a mother. There are many special aunties, grandmothers, friends, etc. that fill that role splendidly.

My “Mommy” takes very good care of me. She sees to all my needs. Even when she’s completely exhausted, she seems to know when I need a cuddle and freely gives me one.

Thank you Mom for all you do for me every day!!!!

My tip this week: don’t forget to let your mom know how much she means to you, and try to remember how special she is everyday!

Romeo’s Tip of the Week: Take time to enjoy your pet….it’s great for them and a real stress reliever for you

Romeo the little black dog!

Hello everyone!

I’d like to conclude my month-long pet topics with some thoughts on pet training, general care and ENJOYMENT.

It’s a pet owner’s responsibility to train your pet. We aren’t born knowing right from wrong. We want to please our owners, but we need your help to do so. Some people think “potty-training” is the only training a dog or cat needs, but this is not true. Would you expect your newborn baby to come all prepared to know how to behave as he/she is growing up? Of course not! It takes an investment of lots of time, patience and nurturing. Pets don’t necessarily need professional training. You can usually teach your pet good manners and proper behavior. There are pets ( some pals that I’ve known) that may need a little extra help.

A little time each day or week ( depending on the type of pet you have) should be spent on grooming. We like to be clean, well fed and loved. We give lots of love and affection in return. Even if your pet is a fish, taking care of your aquarium and feeding properly will give you endless hours of calm relaxation watching your fish.

Enjoy your time with your pet. Don’t think of your time investment as a chore. You can receive many rewards for giving your pet the proper care.

My tip this week: take time to enjoy your pet….it’s great for them and a real stress reliever for you.

Have a wonderful week!

Romeo’s Tip of the Week:If you haven’t already done so, check your pet’s health record and make sure he/she is up-to-date on their rabies vaccination.

Hello everyone!
Hope everyone of you had a good week. For the most part, my blogs this month have been pet topics. I’d like

Romeo, the little black dog.

Romeo hiding because it is time for his Vet visit!

to continue with that theme and go back to vaccinations for your pets. I already talked about the importance of heartworm disease prevention and protection against fleas and ticks but, one of the most important vaccines you should provide for your cat or dog is the RABIES vaccine.

Rabies is not only dangerous (fatal if not treated before symptoms start) for your pet it is extremely dangerous for humans and like with your pet is fatal if treatment is not given in time. Most  states, if not all,  require you to vaccinate your pet against rabies.
Even if your cat is an indoors cat don’t risk your beloved pet’s life and possibly yours if it should get outdoors. Many cities have monthly lost cost vaccine clinics to insure that people can afford to have their pet vaccinated. Some states now offer a 3 year rabies vaccine so there’s really no excuse for not doing the responsible thing.
My tip this week; if you haven’t already done so, check your pet’s health record and make sure he/she is up-to-date on their rabies vaccination.
Thanks to all of you who take such good care of your pets; we really appreciate you for doing so.

Romeo’s Tip of the Week: Do not live in fear. Do not let anyone take away our freedom to live our lives the way we choose. Be closer to your family, friends and neighbors.

Americans sticking together and having each others back.

Hello everyone!

I had planned to continue my topics for National Pet Month, but I’m taking a step away from that this week.

Everyone’s attention has been on the tragedy that took place in Boston, and rightfully so. But I’d also like to point out that even though this cold blooded and senseless, violent act tried to snuff out our freedom we came together as a city, state, nation and family, regardless of our age, race, sex, religion, or ethnic origin. We came together as we always do and always will. There will always be someone trying to take away what we have but they will not succeed. No matter what our disagreements may be, just like any family, we will always have each others’ back.

My heartfelt prayers go out to the victims and their families. As a nation, let’s be sure to lend our support to them as they try to heal from this senseless tragedy.

My tip this week: do not live in fear. Do not let anyone take away our freedom to live our lives the way we choose. Be closer to your family, friends and neighbors.

Take care.

Romeo’s Tip of the Week : Consider pet adoption. But please do your homework first. It can be a wonderfully rewarding experience for you and your new “family member”.

Romeo knows he is one of the lucky ones. He is very much loved by his family!

Hello everyone!

Last week, my blog was about heartworm disease & flea preventatives and the importance of keeping your pet’s health record up to date. This week’s blog is about pet adoption.

I’ve written on this topic before, but with this being “National Pet Month” ( Apr.1-May 6), I thought it was worth repeating. Adopting a pet can be a wonderful and rewarding experience, but should never be done on a whim, without careful thought and consideration. There are many animal in shelters across our country that are waiting for someone special to share their love with. But please do your homework first.

Some of the many things you should consider are the following:

  • age of children in your home
  • living space you have,
  • expense of food, supplies and vet care
  • if you take vacations, do you have someone who will care for your pet while you are away?

I am one of the very lucky ones who have had a family welcome me into their home and hearts, and I have become a full family member. I am very well cared for and much loved, and I love them too!

My tip this week: consider pet adoption. But please do your homework first. It can be a wonderfully rewarding experience for you and your new “family member”.

Romeo’s Tip of the Week : Just take a few moments to check your pet’s health records & supplies. It’ll be a good thing for your pet, and for you too!

Romeo, the little black dog

Hello everyone!

I just heard from my pal, Shredder (he’s a black lab who
lives in south Georgia). He said the mosquitoes are starting to show up there, and so his mom made sure to renew his prescription for heartworm disease preventative. Heartworm disease is a horrible disease and can be fatal if left untreated. The treatment is very costly and may not be successful, so the best thing to do is prevent it.

The vet will do a simple blood test from your pet to make sure he/she is heartworm free, and then prescribe a preventative medication. Where you live may not have started mosquito season, but this is a
good time to check your pet’s health records to make sure he/she is up to date on all immunizations and flea/heartworm preventative.

Your pet will really appreciate you for taking good care of him/her. Just as with people, good health care is an essential part of living a long and happy life.

My tip this week: just take a few moments to check your pet’s health records &
supplies. It’ll be a good thing for your pet, and for you too!

Have a great week.

Romeo’s Tip of the Week: Take the celebration of this day with you thru-out the week!

Romeo is celebrating Easter!

HAPPY EASTER!

I hope everyone’s Easter is starting off bright and sunny. I can already smell the delicious aromas floating thru-out the apartment. On the table is sitting a woven basket filled with brightly colored eggs and assorted candies for all to share. And, don’t worry, my momma has prepared a special doggie basket, filled with “safe” treats, just for me.There’s also the annual white Easter lilies.

I really love this time of year. It’s so fresh and new. It’s a time of renewal and hope of things to come. Mother nature renews her beauty this time of year with tiny buds on the trees and flowers of every color beginning to blossom.

As you gather today with family and friends, celebrate the wonderful good fortune you have to be with each other today., But also, take a moment to think of those who are alone and/or away from their loved ones.

My tip this week: take the celebration of this day with you thru-out the week!

Happy, peaceful thoughts.

Romeo’s Tip of the Week: When planning your Easter celebration, remember to keep it SAFE for your little ones and your pets.

Romeo the little black dog.

When planning your Easter celebration, remember to keep it SAFE for your little ones and your pets.

Hello everyone!I’d like to devote my blog this week to holiday safety. With Easter rapidly approaching, many people will be planning family gatherings, egg hunts, etc. Any time families are able to spend time together is a special time, but with celebrations there can also be tragedies if we aren’t careful. At Easter-time people plan wonderful meals and have candy-filled baskets galore; and even though we like to share with our pets, they can become very sick if they get hold of the wrong thing. Young children have lots of fun hunting for Easter eggs, and with baskets filled with chocolates & more. But too much of a good thing can make your little ones suffer with a bad tummy ache. If you use hard boiled eggs, beware of spoilage. The reusable plastic eggs can sometimes get lodged in a toddler’s mouth. With a little pre-planning and careful strategy, any holiday celebration can be fun for everyone!

So my tip this week is simple: When planning your Easter celebration, remember to keep it SAFE for your little ones and your pets.

Romeo’s Tip of the Week: Let’s all do our part to keep good manners in fashion,it’s beneficial to us all!

Hello everyone!
Little Black Dog Social Media & More

Happy St Patricks Day, from Romeo the little black dog!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!
Wear your green today.
Last week I asked the question, “Are good manners still in fashion?”.I’d like to thank those who responded and/or took the time to think about it.
From what I can tell people like being treated with good manners, but a lot feel good manners are in decline nowadays. It’s hard to understand why when it seems that most people respond in a more positive way when shown respect and politeness. The “Golden Rule” (do unto others as you would have done to you) seems to me a no-brainer, but many think of it as just another old-fashioned saying.
It’s amazing to me how some people go to great lengths and expense to “train” their pets to behave politely, and then they go out in public and are rude to the grocery store clerk or the Doctor’s receptionist, etc. They train their pets to sit patiently awaiting a special treat, and then are rude to their waiter/waitress when their meal takes longer than expected to arrive at their table.
Everyone can benefit from using good manners. It’s the whole “trickle-down effect”. You behave politely to someone and they in turn behave more politely to the next person that comes along. The same may be said for “bad manners”. If you are rude to the sales clerk then she may be less than friendly to the next customer and that customer relays that bad attitude along to the next person they come into contact with.
All this having been said, my tip this week: let’s all do our part to keep good manners in fashion. It’s beneficial to us all.
Have a wonderful week!
